My greatest desire is to empower others through sharing my story and insights.
My #1 goal is to inspire youth to ‘Dream BIG and boldly’! Because when you allow yourself the opportunity to do so, you’ll soon realise that you truly have the talent, passion and drive to do all that you set your mind to.
“Dream boldly for anything is possible.” – Gianna Lucas
I was a bubbly girl with big dreams held back by a vicious anxiety disorder that held me captive for five years during primary school. I was also a victim of bullying. I loved playing and performing but my nausea prevented me from being a ‘normal’ kid. Though a long journey, I never let my anxiety get the better of me. At the start of Grade six, I was able to overcome the condition, with clinical psychologists calling my recovery “a miracle”. It was a huge feat. It solidified my belief that anything is possible as long as you have self-belief.
In 2006 whilst I was in Year nine, I won a competition to be a part of Australia’s youngest all-girl pop group, Charmz. I was one of four girls put together by Shock Records, Nickelodeon and Mattel (Barbie). It was an incredible experience. I grew as a person and gained confidence, whilst creating fun and uplifting music for a young audience. This opportunity opened my eyes to the world of performing arts and media, which I immediately felt drawn to.
During my VCE, I threw myself into musical theatre and also commenced my passion for radio, volunteering at a local community radio station whilst studying Media Industries: Radio Broadcasting. In Year 12 (2009) I developed Chronic Fatigue, however I never allowed the condition to prevent me from pursuing my dreams. I learnt to deal with it and push through.
I then went onto study a Bachelor of Journalism at La Trobe University, completing the degree in 2012. During that time I continued volunteering as a Friday Drive announcer at my local radio station. This opened a new on-air opportunity at Australia’s biggest community radio station at 89.9 LightFM in Melbourne. I began as a Weekend Announcer, which led to me being their Breakfast Radio Producer (Ken & Lucy then Lucy & Kel). During this time I was also their Traffic and Weather Reporter. My time at LightFM also included me hosting the station’s Saturday Best of Brekky Show and co-hosting their Saturday Night Party Mix, alongside Hit Network Dubbo Breakfast Announcer, Jimi Love.
On a personal note, around the year 2013 I developed an auto-immune disease, Vitiligo, which I still have today. In short it’s an incurable condition that causes the loss of skin colour in blotches. Although Vitiligo affects my outward appearance, I’ve learnt to not let it bother me. In fact I embrace it, thinking of it as a unique tattoo. After all, beauty is only skin deep. It’s who you are on the inside that counts.
After LightFM, I embarked on a new opportunity, a contract to start-up a bi-monthly online women’s magazine, I AM WOMAN, which has since been turned into a podcast. As Deputy Editor of the magazine, I worked alongside the team in creating themes, scouting talent, commissioning writers and of course editing all incoming content. It was a lot of fun.
I AM WOMAN was a great experience and opened up a brand new door – enter digital communications and marketing. In September 2016 I became a freelance digital creative known as Miss Savvy. I had regular clients in both Melbourne and Sydney, ranging from government bodies to sensational small businesses. In February 2018 I closed the business so to fully dedicate my time to working with young people.
In April 2017 I launched The Promenade With Me Podcast – a weekly inspo show for young women. The podcast has grown exponentially and now has four regular show themes. 2018 will see the show expand into an even larger network, so #watchthisspace! To discover the full story behind The Promenade With Me Podcast, you can hear its back story by tuning into my first episode.
In October 2017 I was invited to speak at numerous events and workshops, which opened up new opportunities. In January 2018 I became an Educator at Beautiful Minds and run numerous workshops and seminars at events, schools and retreats.
My hope is that through me sharing my own story and insights, I can inspire others to believe in their capabilities, embrace their uniqueness and pursue their dreams.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
